Without it, the chipped tooth will not be able to withstand the pressure of chewing. One also experiences a sharp sensation when drinking cold beverages. Anesthesia is used to make the procedure comfortable and painless. Some sections of the tooth will be removed to make room for the crown and prevent it from looking bulky afterward.
Root Canal
A root canal is a complex procedure that involves getting rid of all the decayed matter and affected nerve endings. Cracks allow food particles and plaque to penetrate into the inner layers where they decompose gradually. This treatment is effective in preventing secondary complications such as gum infections and diseases. After the procedure, a crown is used to hinder the crack from spreading and strengthen the tooth if its structure is compromised during the extraction of the decayed matter. A seal is also applied to the enamel to prevent infections after treatment.
Use of Dental Implants
A dental implant is used if the crack extends beyond the gum line. In this kind of scenario, the dentist has no option but to extract the tooth. Once it is pulled out, a dental implant that resembles a natural tooth will be placed on the open space and secured in the jawbone.
