Helpful Tips For Overcoming Sciatic Nerve Pain

Sciatic nerve pain is considered to be a very irritating sickness. This is the longest and the largest nerve found in the body. Usually, you can apply heat and/or ice packs for about 20 minutes and is repeated every two hours. The two may be used alternatively, but most people prefer using ice packs first while they feel more relief when using heat packs.

Exercise:

Constant bed rest may be good for recovering from the sciatica pain; however, there is a need for you to exercise when you are suffering from this kind of back pain. Exercise can be good for your back since it will help to stretch the muscles in these areas without causing damage to your sciatic nerve. There are a lot of possible exercises that a person can have if they have this condition.

But, when choosing an exercise, you should choose an exercise that consists of smooth, flexible and graceful movements that involve movement of your lower back; like yoga. However, at the same time, you should also consider avoiding exercises that involve strenuous activities, as it might stress out your lower back.

Medications:

Medications can be another thing that can surely help you recover from the pain. Some of the medications involved may be over the counter drugs, or drugs that do not require doctor’s prescription. Examples of over the counter drugs are anti-inflammatory drugs, like Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or COX-2 inhibitors, or oral steroids; since these kinds of drugs can be really helpful in reducing the inflammation of the body, which is a factor that causes sciatica pain.

Chiropractic and/or Manual Manipulation:

You can also consider having chiropractic manipulation in order to free yourself from the condition. Basically, it works by manipulating certain point of your spinal column in order for the patient to achieve relief. Trained professionals, like chiropractors and osteopathic physicians, can do a chiropractic procedure. This way of alleviating sciatic nerve pain is done by using a machine called Chiropractic spinal decompression machine; since it will help make the spine of the patient be in the correct alignment.
